Nike Flyknit Racer features an innovative upper design new to Nike Running. The upper is entirely made of polyester yarn that is fed into a proprietary knitting machine. Constructing an upper with this technology creates little to no waste, making the shoe incredibly efficient to produce. The knit varies throughout the upper: it's more open in areas that need greater flexibility or breathability and tighter in areas that demand support. Instead of using flex grooves, the Nike Flyknit Racer uses cutouts between the waffle lugs to enhance flexibility. The Waffleskin outsole features thin web rubber that is lighter weight than traditional outsoles but maintains great traction and durability.
